Not in a 100% of the cases, but at least on 98% when someone feels offended is truly a symptom of pride and/or denial. Proverbs 18:19 (NIV) tells us that “An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel”. If we put in perspective when we feel offended about a situation is more about how it touches a soft spot inside of us that makes it hurt or burn, than about the actual offender.
When we are faced with an offense we need to ask ourselves the following two questions: Why did this offended me? And what is God trying to show me through this situation? Yes, we can learn a lot about ourselves through offenses. I think in our selfish minds we forget that we really are not all created equal and that people have different personalities, different lives experiences and walks of life. When someone says something that hurts our feelings… that’s exactly what it is…our feelings towards the situation.
Granted, some people could benefit from polishing the way they deliver some messages, but it’s the content that hits our core. Getting
offended is a selfish act, it’s all about you and your feelings, and it has nothing to do with growth or the other person. I know you just opened your eyes when you read this. I did too the first time I heard it, but when I finally sat down to ponder on it, I realize it was the truth.
Offenses tend to reveal our insecurities, complexes, struggles, sins, fears of rejection, feelings of inadequacy and feelings of inferiority. On the other hand, it can also be provoked by our pride, superiority complexes, denials and lack of forgiveness. Once again, it’s about what’s going inside of us more than what was brought in front of us.

I have found that confession is designed specifically for the confessor, not for anyone else, including God. God doesn’t need you to tell Him what you’ve done. He knows exactly what you did, so then why the need for confession? Acknowledging what we’ve done is the first step toward true healing. You have to admit to yourself that you have sinned.

I’m sure some of the audience of this show wants to know the intimate secrets of these famous people, others watch as part of the inspiration of their own recovery process regardless of their personal type of struggle. It’s at moments like this when you realize the blessing of the anonymity. I can’t even imagine how hard it is to face your greatest demons in front of a camera. These are real human beings with real struggles and in a way it’s very admirable that they have place themselves in the same position of being icons, but this time to show their strength through their weaknesses.
