Beyond The Easter Commercialization

The commercialization of Easter has become an undeniable reality in our modern society. From colorful eggs to chocolate bunnies, the springtime holiday has often lost its deeper significance amidst the frenzy of consumerism. But do we truly understand the origins and the profound symbolism behind the treats and gifts exchanged during this religious occasion?

One aspect often overlooked is the origin of the Easter bunny. While many attribute its roots to commercialism, historians trace it back to Eostre, the pagan goddess of fertility and spring. According to ancient tales, Eostre transformed a freezing bird into a rabbit, which continued to lay eggs like a bird. This bunny, in gratitude, decorated its eggs—a tradition that has transcended centuries.

Yet, beyond pagan folklore, Easter eggs carry a profound religious connotation. According to Eastern Orthodox tradition, Mary Magdalene, upon witnessing Jesus’ resurrection, held an egg as a symbol of rebirth and the eternal cycle of life. (I’m not sure where this comes from. All the versions of the bible I have say nothing about Mary Magdalene holding and egg. Why would you run to a tomb holding an egg? Doesn’t make sense to me)

The story goes that Emperor Tiberius Caesar dismissed her proclamation, likening the likelihood of Christ’s resurrection to the redness of the egg—a symbol of skepticism that contrasts with the profound truth of the resurrection.

As Christians, it’s crucial to pause and reflect on the essence of this celebration. The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands at the core of our faith—it’s the pivotal moment that defines our redemption and salvation. While the birth of Christ holds its significance, it’s through his resurrection that he transcends from mere man to the Messiah, offering humanity the promise of eternal life.

Amid chocolate indulgence and bunny-themed festivities, it’s imperative to reconnect with the true essence of Resurrection Day. It’s not about forsaking celebration but about refocusing our hearts and minds on the ultimate sacrifice and triumph of Jesus Christ. It’s about instilling in our children the profound truth of salvation, the love that compelled God to send His Son for our sake.

Transitioning from Easter to Resurrection Day may seem like a subtle semantic shift, but it carries profound implications. It’s a declaration that our celebration isn’t merely about eggs and bunnies but about the transformative power of resurrection. It’s a reminder to prioritize the spiritual over the material, the eternal over the ephemeral.

So, as we gather with loved ones this spring, let’s reclaim the true essence of this sacred holiday. Let’s exchange chocolate with gratitude, colored eggs with reverence, and above all, let’s celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Happy Resurrection Day to you and your loved ones!

May the joy of the risen Christ illuminate your hearts and homes, now and forevermore.

The Essence of True Love

In a world often marred by division and discord, the concept of true love stands as a beacon of hope, offering a transformative power that transcends human understanding. True love, as defined by Christ’s teachings, extends far beyond romantic notions and familial bonds. It is a love that emanates from the very heart of God, urging us to love our neighbors as ourselves.

The foundation of true love lies in the teachings and example set by Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of John 13:34-35, Jesus imparts a profound commandment to his disciples: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”

Christ’s love goes beyond mere affection; it is sacrificial, unconditional, and boundless. His life serves as a living testament to the transformative power of true love, inviting us to emulate His example in our daily lives.

Loving Your Neighbor as Yourself:

The biblical concept of loving your neighbor as yourself is an extension of the love of Christ. In Matthew 22:39, Jesus declares, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This commandment challenges us to look beyond our differences and treat others with the same compassion, empathy, and kindness that we desire for ourselves.

True love calls us to break down the barriers that divide us, embracing the diversity of humanity with open hearts and open minds. By embodying the love of Christ, we can create a ripple effect that spreads love, healing, and unity in our communities.

Embracing Unconditional Love:

Unconditional love, a central theme in the teachings of Christ, is the key to true love. In Romans 8:38-39, the Apostle Paul emphasizes the unwavering nature of God’s love: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

As we strive to love our neighbors as ourselves, we must cultivate a love that transcends circumstances, prejudices, and judgments. True love, inspired by Christ, is a force that persists in the face of adversity, fostering unity and understanding.

In a world yearning for authentic connection and harmony, the love of Christ serves as the timeless blueprint for true love. By internalizing His teachings, embracing unconditional love, and extending that love to our neighbors, we can contribute to a society where compassion triumphs over division. As we embark on the journey of living out the love of Christ, let us remember the words of 1 Corinthians 16:14: “Do everything in love.” True love, rooted in the love of Christ, has the power to transform hearts, mend relationships, and create a world where love reigns supreme.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Impact of Social Media on Our Christian Witness

Today, I want to delve into a personal pet peeve—social media. Admittedly, I spend more time on these platforms than I’d like to admit. While they serve as sources of information and entertainment, they can also be breeding grounds for contention. The keyboard warriors who populate these spaces often forget that, despite the virtual barrier, their words impact real people with real feelings.

What irks me most is when fellow believers, driven by fervor or frustration, become ensnared in the web of online negativity. It’s easy to forget that our life testimony can either draw people closer to Christ or push them away. While delivering the right message is essential, the way it’s conveyed matters just as much.

Scripture reminds us in Colossians 4:6 (NIV), “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

This week, I witnessed a TikTok live session unfold before my eyes, it featured a self-proclaimed believer and minister engaging in a political discourse. Unfortunately, her behavior left much to be desired. Instead of embodying the love and grace of Christ, her words were a torrent of insults and profanities. People commenting how behavior like hers repels them from Christianity is one that pains my heart.

As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in His footsteps. Being real and authentic is crucial, but embodying Christlikeness should be our guiding principle. In the journey of change, respect for those around us becomes the foundation.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) reminds us, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Disagreements are inevitable, especially in the vast landscape of social media. However, our response can either foster healthy dialogue or deepen the divide. It’s essential to recognize that not everyone will share our viewpoints. Agreeing to disagree respectfully opens doors to future conversations.

In conclusion, our online behavior shapes our living testimony. This extends beyond our physical interactions into the virtual realm, where anonymity is merely an illusion. As Christians, we are never anonymous to God.

Let’s conduct an honest inventory of our behaviors and reactions, identifying areas where we can enhance our living testimony. This isn’t about putting on a façade but genuinely respecting and loving others, even in the digital mission field.

As we navigate the complexities of social media, may our actions and words reflect the love of Christ, drawing others closer to the Gospel rather than repelling them away.

As always be blessed.

Navigating Uncertainty with Unshakable Faith: A Guide to Finding Peace in Turbulent Times

In a world marked by constant change and uncertainty, maintaining a steadfast faith can be a source of comfort and guidance. Whether facing personal challenges, global crises, or the unknown future, embracing faith provides a foundation for stability and hope. In this blog post, we’ll explore the importance of faith in times of uncertainty, drawing inspiration from timeless scriptures to guide us through the storm

  1. The Anchor of Faith in Stormy Seas:
In the midst of uncertainty, faith acts as an anchor, grounding us when the waves of doubt and fear threaten to overwhelm. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Embracing this truth allows us to face uncertain times with resilience and confidence.
  2. Turning Fear into Faith:
It’s natural to feel fear in uncertain circumstances, but faith transforms fear into an opportunity for trust and reliance on a higher power. As 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Letting go of fear enables us to approach challenges with a clear and focused mindset, guided by faith.
  3. Scriptural Guidance for Uncertain Times:
Explore scriptures that specifically address uncertainty, such as Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” These verses offer practical wisdom for navigating life’s uncertainties with faith as our compass.
  4. Building Resilience Through Prayer and Meditation:
Engage in the transformative power of prayer and meditation. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Cultivating a habit of prayer provides solace and strength in times of uncertainty.
  5. Community and Shared Faith:
Joining a faith community fosters a sense of belonging and support. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” Shared faith strengthens individual convictions and provides a network of encouragement during challenging times.

In times of uncertainty, faith serves as a powerful tool for navigating the unknown with grace and courage. By anchoring ourselves in scriptures, turning fear into faith, and fostering a community of shared beliefs, we can find peace amidst life’s uncertainties. Remember, as Romans 15:13 proclaims, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Embrace faith, and let it be your guide through the storms of uncertainty.

Embarking on the journey to a stronger, more resilient you is a transformative experience that begins with faith and intentional practices. Trusting God’s Plan: Embracing Faith, Obedience, and Divine Guidance

In the journey of faith, believers often find themselves grappling with the challenge of trusting God’s plan for their lives. The desire to know the outcome before taking the steps can be a stumbling block on this path of trust and obedience. Let’s explore the struggles, doubts, and the uplifting truth that lies in surrendering to God’s perfect plan.

As believers, we may doubt the signs placed before us, especially when they lead us to unfamiliar territories. Seeking assurance becomes a constant plea, even when God presents unmistakable billboards. Our human inclinations and discomfort may hinder our ability to wholly trust His plan. Yet, as followers of Jesus, we are called to close our eyes and let Him lead, even when the destination is unknown.

Drawing parallels from the Bible, we recall the story of Abraham and Isaac. When God instructed Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac questioned his father about the sacrificial lamb. Abraham, in faith, replied that God would provide. Similarly, we are called to follow God’s plan, trusting that He will open the right doors, close the necessary ones, and bring the right people into our lives.

Reflecting on our daily lives, we often trust mundane things with blind faith – the food we eat, the water we drink, the coffee prepared by someone else, or the Uber driver transporting us. These things can fail or not meet our standards, yet we trust them without question. It is a poignant reminder of our tendency to doubt the Creator of heaven and earth and HIS perfect plan for our lives, when he never fails.

God desires our trust. He orchestrates the details when we surrender our plans to Him. We must cease attempting to navigate life independently and embrace the peace that comes from following His divine blueprint. The journey may not be easy, but the burden is light when we align ourselves with God’s will.

I recognize the fear associated with stepping into the unknown. However, reflecting on past experiences where God provided, freed, and saved, serves as a testament to His unwavering love; I can’t but to trust.  It is a call to all of us to  relinquish control and allow Jesus to guide through His plan.

As we step into a new year, it’s an opportune moment to challenge ourselves to a higher level of trust in God. The message resonates as an encouragement to let go of self-driven agendas and embrace the divine path set by the Creator.

Trusting God’s plan requires faith, obedience, and a willingness to let go of our fears and doubts. The journey may be daunting, but the promise of divine guidance and a plan tailored by a loving Creator awaits. As believers, let us embark on this new year with a renewed commitment to trust God and allow His plan to unfold in our lives.

If you need prayer or seek support on this journey, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments or connect via email.

And remember, challenges can be opportunities for growth. Consider picking up a copy of the “15-Day Challenge to a Stronger You” – perhaps the next step in your plan to grow closer to God. Embrace the unknown, for it is in trusting God’s plan that we find true peace and fulfillment.

The Power of Words: Spreading Love, Not Fear

In our journey as ambassadors of Christ, we often find ourselves in situations where our words hold immense power. We’ve all been there, uttering statements in the heat of the moment that we later regret. But as representatives of Christ, it is our duty to ensure that our words are guided by the spirit, not dominated by the flesh.

One concerning trend we see today is people telling others that they are destined for hell simply because of a difference in opinion or belief. It’s essential to recognize that no human possesses the authority to determine another person’s eternal fate. When we pass such judgment, we are essentially laying stumbling blocks on our own path.

The reality is, none of us can fully comprehend another person’s journey with Christ. Rather than assuming that our unkind words will act as a wake-up call, we should consider the potential harm they may inflict on someone’s spiritual path. Feeling judged and shamed by others is not our role as followers of Christ; it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to guide us when we stray.

Some individuals might hide behind the notion of “telling the truth in love.” However, it’s crucial to scrutinize our motives when sharing our beliefs. Are we genuinely concerned for the other person’s soul, or are we seeking to feel superior to them? Are our words driven by love or condemnation? Examining our hearts for our true intentions is essential.

As Christians, our primary calling is to spread the good news of Christ. Threatening someone with the prospect of hell is not good news. Our words and actions can either draw people closer to Christ or push them away from the gospel. It’s disheartening to hear non-believers say, “If being like you is what it means to be a Christian, I’d rather go to hell.” Such a statement should serve as a wake-up call, a reminder that we may not be reflecting Jesus as we are called to do.

We must remember that the core message of Christianity is one of love, redemption, and salvation. It’s about extending a hand of grace, not casting stones of judgment. Our role as ambassadors of Christ is to demonstrate love, compassion, and understanding to those around us, regardless of their beliefs or opinions.

In conclusion, let us strive to be vigilant in ensuring that our words and actions align with the teachings of Christ. We must refrain from pronouncing judgment upon others and instead focus on spreading the message of love, hope, and redemption. After all, our purpose is to bring people to Christ, not repel them from the gospel. In this way, we can reflect Jesus in the way He has called us to, shining His light and love in a world that desperately needs it.

My book, The Road Home, speaks about how sometimes we forget where we came from once we start our journey with Christ and forget to extend grace to others.

Until next time, Be Blessed

Finding Life Balance

After looking into the things that deplete us in our post yesterday, I wanted to talk about finding balance in life. From a Christian perspective, the pursuit of balance is not merely a secular concept but also a spiritual imperative. The Bible offers valuable guidance on how to find equilibrium in our lives while remaining true to our faith.

Prioritizing Faith and Relationship with God

At the core of Christian living is the relationship between individuals and God. Finding balance begins by prioritizing your faith and nurturing your connection with the Creator. Regular prayer, reading of Scripture, and participation in spiritual practices such as attending church services, fellowship with other believers, and worship can help you establish a strong foundation.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This verse emphasizes the importance of relying on God for guidance in every aspect of our lives, which is crucial in achieving balance.

Balancing Work and Rest

In our modern world, work often consumes a significant portion of our time and energy. While it’s essential to work diligently, Christians are also encouraged to find a balance by observing the Sabbath, a day of rest, reflection, and worship. The Sabbath is a reminder of God’s command to rest, as He rested on the seventh day of creation.

Exodus 20:8-10 (NIV) states: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God.” By setting aside a day for rest, we honor God’s design for our well-being and remind ourselves that life is not solely about work and achievement.

Cultivating Healthy Relationships

Balancing our relationships with family, friends, and the broader community is another crucial aspect of Christian life. The Bible emphasizes the importance of love, forgiveness, and compassion in our interactions with others. In doing so, we maintain harmony in our relationships and reduce the stress that can arise from conflicts and misunderstandings.

Colossians 3:13-14 (NIV) instructs us: “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” These verses emphasize the need for forgiveness and love as foundational principles for maintaining healthy relationships.

Pursuing Physical and Mental Well-being

Taking care of our physical and mental health is essential in achieving balance. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to steward them well. This means maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and seeking mental and emotional well-being through prayer, meditation, and seeking professional help when needed.

Finding balance in life from a Christian perspective involves prioritizing faith, work, rest, relationships, and self-care. By following the guidance of the Bible and drawing strength from our relationship with God, we can navigate life’s challenges while maintaining a sense of equilibrium. Remember that balance is not about achieving perfection but about seeking God’s guidance and living in alignment with His will as we journey through this earthly life.

I found this program, that could help you find balance in your life. If this is something that you’re struggling with, I invite you to check it out, by clicking on the banner below.

As always, be blessed.

Saying Yes to Love: The Christmas Story

Christ xmas

We all have heard the story of Christmas. The baby born in a manger by a virgin. The wise men guided by a star. When you look at it closely it’s just a story of deciding to say yes to love. The main festivities related to Jesus are his birth and death. Both were celebrations of saying yes to love.

The first was Jesus’s decision to save humanity through becoming one of us to save us from ourselves.

That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer. Hebrews 10:5

God said yes to Jesus and sent him to earth.

baby

He then chose a woman named Mary to carry that son and bring that son into the world.

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her. Luke 1:38

Mary said yes, despite knowing the consequences of being judged since her “fiance” was not the father of the baby, which would bring shame to them.

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement[c] quietly. Matthew 1:18

Although our redemption came later with Jesus’s resurrection, Christmas was the first step in the journey of him showing us how to live a life for God within our human condition. He said yes to dying to save us all.

I believe that the best way to celebrate this time is to reflect on this love that was given to us and freely give it to others. It’s not about money or presents, it’s about spending time with those we love, but also sharing ourselves with those who don’t have anyone to love them.

This is the real meaning of Christmas: saying yes to love.

How are you showing your love for others this Christmas? Share it with us!

Simplicity

images (1)

Last summer I had to move. My 9-5 was relocating, my lease was becoming not affordable and I just needed a change. Before I moved into that apartment, I use to live in a town house. I had to get rid of a lot of things coming from a town house to a 2-bedroom apartment. This time I decided to move into a 1-bedroom apartment. I made that decision purposely. Again, I had to get rid of a lot of stuff. Guess what? I still have a lot of stuff.

The reason for the downsize was that I wanted live a simple life. I still look at houses in real estate websites that are gorgeous. At the end I always asked myself, who’s going to clean all that?

images

As time goes by, I’ve been trying to prioritize my life. What’s the point of having my closets filled with things that I never use? What’s the point of having all these things around to have more to clean? In return I can have more time for more important things. I can have more time to write, to read, to exercise, to pray and most important to rest.

Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

When our focus is in getting more stuff and not in our live purpose, we are practicing a way of idolatry.

I haven’t just worked on simplifying my surroundings. I’m working on simplifying every aspect of my life. My schedule, the things I eat, the company I keep. Life is complicated enough without us trying to do more than what we’re called to do.

Simplifying our life will help us have more time for more important thing, and probably more resources to accomplish our goals.

Thbd8f307411d23d6481031f5d786380c0e Lord has not asked us to hoard treasures on earth, but to store them in heaven. Now I’m sure that none of the treasures that he was talking about can be found at your preferred department store or at the mall. That scripture in Matthew also says that where our treasures are, so is our heart. It’s our heart in the things that the world craves or in the simple things the Lord has created for us.

Is out lifestyle living by: Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Have a great week!
