Finding Meaning in our Challenges

Amid life’s challenges, gratitude is often the last emotion we feel. Whether it’s physical or emotional pain, navigating through difficulties is never an easy task. However, as we reflect on our journey, we may find that these trials bear fruit, offering us invaluable lessons and growth.

The Control Freak’s Journey:

“I am controlling. I like to plan. I like to know when, what, who, how, and where… all the time.” How many of us can relate to this sentiment? God often places us in situations where we must surrender, throw our hands in the air, and say, “Whatever you want, God.” It’s a journey filled with improvement, setbacks, and the constant need for reminders.

Desires of the Heart:

We’ve all heard the scripture about God granting the desires of our hearts. Yet, timing can be an issue. God may withhold a desire not because it’s not meant for us, but because we aren’t ready to receive it. Be cautious in asking God to protect us while robbing a bank or to dissolve someone else’s marriage for our own desires. I assure you that’s not part of his will.

Unexpected Blessings:

My greatest desire—to become a mother. The journey wasn’t as expected, not in the timing, circumstances, or package I envisioned. Yet, it turned out to be perfect. The lesson? God’s plans are often beyond our understanding, and His timing is always perfect, even if we don’t see it at first.

Rejection and Growth:

When faced with rejection, like being passed over for a promotion multiple times, it may be a clue to move on to a place that appreciates our talents. Every experience teaches us something, ensuring that nothing learned is in vain. Just like in the movie “Karate Kid,” where Mr. Miyagi’s unconventional training methods turned out to be invaluable lessons for Daniel, God often works similarly. The challenges we face today are the lessons we need for a better life in the future.

Seeking God’s Lessons:

Ask God today, “What are you trying to teach me in this season?” By embracing challenges with faith, we open ourselves to the possibility of learning valuable lessons that will shape our future.

Life’s challenges may seem overwhelming, but through gratitude, faith, and an openness to learning, we can navigate them with strength and resilience. Just like the writer’s journey of surrendering control and embracing unexpected blessings, our own stories may unfold in ways we never imagined. Navigating Life’s Transformations with Faith and Gratitude

Change is the only constant in life, an undeniable truth that shapes our journey in unpredictable ways. Some changes bring joy and fulfillment, like new relationships, homes, or jobs, while others, such as health issues or the loss of a loved one, can be painful and challenging to accept. Regardless of the nature of change, it leaves an indelible mark on our lives, and it’s crucial to recognize that it’s okay to take the time to process and grieve the losses associated with these shifts.

In my own life, I’ve encountered numerous changes, both positive and challenging. There were times when I wished I could seamlessly transition to the next chapter without acknowledging the impact of the change. However, the truth is that when a part of our world changes, it’s not only okay but necessary to pause, reflect on the lessons learned, grieve the loss, and then embrace the next phase.

Grief is a personal journey, and the pace of life may not always allow for an extended period of mourning. Yet, even amid new activities and responsibilities, it’s essential to carve out time to acknowledge and process our feelings. It’s important to choose wisely whom we share our grief with, as not everyone may be equipped to handle it. Selecting supportive and understanding individuals to confide in can make a significant difference in the healing process.

Journaling, prayer, and meditation can be powerful tools during times of change. Turning to our faith, we find solace in knowing that Jesus is always there to listen and comfort us. The scriptures offer guidance and assurance that, even in the face of change, we are not alone.

Interestingly, grief can accompany positive changes as well. Take the example of marriage—a joyous occasion that still requires adjustments. As someone accustomed to a solitary routine, sharing space with a life partner necessitated adapting to a new way of life. Even in moments of celebration, it’s okay to acknowledge and process the adjustments that come with change.

Consider professional advancements or finding your dream home. While these changes are undoubtedly positive, it doesn’t diminish the fact that you may grieve aspects of your previous situation. It’s not ungratefulness; it’s a natural part of the adjustment process.

In my personal journey, transitioning from a job I held for 18 years presented a significant challenge. Despite past experiences of being laid off and quickly finding my way back, this time was different. Accepting that the next opportunity might not mirror the past has been a profound adjustment.

I have a friend facing an even more profound change—her son being sentenced to life in prison. While he is physically present, she mourns the loss of the relationship they once shared and the dreams she had for his future. Life changes, whether big or small, deserve acknowledgment and the space to grieve.

As I reflect on my own journey, I’ve found solace in maintaining a gratitude journal. It’s an extension of the 15-day challenge to a stronger you. Today, I want to delve into a personal pet peeve—social media. Admittedly, I spend more time on these platforms than I’d like to admit. While they serve as sources of information and entertainment, they can also be breeding grounds for contention. The keyboard warriors who populate these spaces often forget that, despite the virtual barrier, their words impact real people with real feelings.

What irks me most is when fellow believers, driven by fervor or frustration, become ensnared in the web of online negativity. It’s easy to forget that our life testimony can either draw people closer to Christ or push them away. While delivering the right message is essential, the way it’s conveyed matters just as much.

Scripture reminds us in Colossians 4:6 (NIV), “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

This week, I witnessed a TikTok live session unfold before my eyes, it featured a self-proclaimed believer and minister engaging in a political discourse. Unfortunately, her behavior left much to be desired. Instead of embodying the love and grace of Christ, her words were a torrent of insults and profanities. People commenting how behavior like hers repels them from Christianity is one that pains my heart.

As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in His footsteps. Being real and authentic is crucial, but embodying Christlikeness should be our guiding principle. In the journey of change, respect for those around us becomes the foundation.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) reminds us, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Disagreements are inevitable, especially in the vast landscape of social media. However, our response can either foster healthy dialogue or deepen the divide. It’s essential to recognize that not everyone will share our viewpoints. Agreeing to disagree respectfully opens doors to future conversations.

In conclusion, our online behavior shapes our living testimony. This extends beyond our physical interactions into the virtual realm, where anonymity is merely an illusion. As Christians, we are never anonymous to God.

Let’s conduct an honest inventory of our behaviors and reactions, identifying areas where we can enhance our living testimony. This isn’t about putting on a façade but genuinely respecting and loving others, even in the digital mission field.

Similarly, we are called to follow God’s plan, trusting that He will open the right doors, close the necessary ones, and bring the right people into our lives.

Reflecting on our daily lives, we often trust mundane things with blind faith – the food we eat, the water we drink, the coffee prepared by someone else, or the Uber driver transporting us. These things can fail or not meet our standards, yet we trust them without question. It is a poignant reminder of our tendency to doubt the Creator of heaven and earth and HIS perfect plan for our lives, when he never fails.

God desires our trust. He orchestrates the details when we surrender our plans to Him. We must cease attempting to navigate life independently and embrace the peace that comes from following His divine blueprint. The journey may not be easy, but the burden is light when we align ourselves with God’s will.

I recognize the fear associated with stepping into the unknown. However, reflecting on past experiences where God provided, freed, and saved, serves as a testament to His unwavering love; I can’t but to trust.  It is a call to all of us to  relinquish control and allow Jesus to guide through His plan.

As we step into a new year, it’s an opportune moment to challenge ourselves to a higher level of trust in God. The message resonates as an encouragement to let go of self-driven agendas and embrace the divine path set by the Creator.

Trusting God’s plan requires faith, obedience, and a willingness to let go of our fears and doubts. The journey may be daunting, but the promise of divine guidance and a plan tailored by a loving Creator awaits. As believers, let us embark on this new year with a renewed commitment to trust God and allow His plan to unfold in our lives.
